On writing the New Testament

Posted by Ron Coleman on October 27, 2008

Jack Shafer, while denying the press is in the tank for Obama, demonstrates in Slate exactly how much it is just that — and explores the pixel-stained wretches’ anxiety over how to contain their transcendental glee while still writing for The Ages about the transformative new era aborning for mankind.

Hey, you won’t get any arguments from me about the failings of the traditional media in its political reporting. And/But my beef — of course — is with the way they’ve reported the reality of the last eight years of an actual president. Now THAT’S what it looks like when you’re in the tank.

But one thing I quibble with:

Every new president gets a honeymoon, of course, but not like the one we’re likely to witness.

The presidential “honeymoon” is an archaic, 20th century idea. Unless Obama clears the electoral bar which has been set impossibly high, get ready to hear that his presidency has failed even before he is sworn in.
