James Joyner has what I think is the closest sense of the matter of the debates to mine that I’ve seen.

Of course he watched them.  Still.

    I think Palin succeeded (and not just because “she didn’t come across as a nitwit”). She probably managed to save her national reputation and her political career — at least with Republicans. And who knows? Maybe it was a game-changer for McCain, too. We’ll know more in a couple of days.
