Palestinians not always so cute

Posted by Ron Coleman on July 28, 2008

Give the AP credit for running this story about torture in Palestinian jails:

In the West Bank, most of the abuse was carried out by the Preventive Security Service and the General Intelligence, Al Haq said. In Gaza, the lead was taken by Izzedine al Qassam, the Hamas military wing which has been folded into the security forces, according to the rights group.

On the other hand, what exactly was it that excited AP’s interest and outrage, and that of the Europeans who are supposedly tutoring this lot in the rudiments of civilization?  Was it the manner in which kidnapped Israelis are treated by Palestinian militias, or the brutality meted out to suspected “collaborators” with the Zionist Entity?  Not quite:

Majdi Jabour was beaten to the point of passing out by the Fatah-allied interrogators in the West Bank who accused him of ties to rival Hamas. In Gaza, the same fate befell a Fatah supporter who was bloodied in a lockup by club-wielding Hamas security men.

Ah, well.  Still, it’s news when Arabs torturing Arabs is as newsworthy as Israelis failing to “exercise restraint.”

Unfortunately, our own government’s policy of torturing detainees has left me unmoved by this story.
